My Initial Proposal

Authors: Ben Robart

For my B324 GCSE Portfolio coursework I have selected Brief 3 to complete and I shall be working alone to complete all elements of the work.

3. A print based advertising campaign for a new product, such as a new clothing range, to include a brand name design, two full page magazine advertisements and a billboard poster, using original photography.

I have selected Brief 3 because it interested me more than any of the other briefs. The only other brief I considered doing was Brief 5.

5. A music promo video, with a storyboard. The length of the promo will reflect the length of the music track, but it is expected to be no longer than three minutes.

However, I decided that doing Brief 3 would suit me more, as I like experimenting to get different effects in Photoshop.

After close study of the Brief it became clear that there were a number of elements to consider. I had to decide what product I was doing. I chose that I would make adverts for a new game.

In order to create a convincing set of products I began a course of primary research.

Firstly, I looked at adverts for recent games, and looked at common elements. They were in quite a basic format, with the name and image of the game standing out the most.

Secondly, I selected a small group of key texts for closer analysis under the headings of: format; content; style; audience; representation and institution. The game adverts I chose to closely analyze were Grand Theft Auto IV, Final Fantasy XIII and Battlefield Bad Company 2.

This research process proved useful because it gave me a greater insight into how games are advertised.

My concept:

Having completed my research I now have a clear idea about the nature of my own product. I intend to create a brand name design, two full page magazine advertisements and a billboard poster for a first person shooter game coming out in the near future.
